How to get there: North of Caloundra - park at the corner of Westaway Pde and Watson St and you can walk down to the beach where Currimundi Lake drains into the ocean.
You will travel km through endless cattle properties on a two-lane usually graded unsealed road. Grab the kids a rod each and get them set up on one of our top five family fishing beaches in Queensland: Follow Moore Park Rd until you arrive at your destination.

Stay for a week or a day with your family. Moore Park has a nice flat beach - a great play area for when the kids get fed up with fishing. With cooking and casting demonstrations, rides, delicious food and plenty of great entertainment, there is something for every member of the family to enjoy.
The wind can get strong here as it's quite exposed. It's a large area and relatively shallow, and great for introducing kids to fishing.
This is the ideal family fishing destination, so much so that the annual Take A Kid Fishing day is held here. It's best fished on the incoming tide or at the top of the tide.
There's a wonderful atmosphere for relaxing and wasting lots of hours on the beach. The tidal flow in and out of the lake is an attractant for fish: This beach has a northerly aspect, which makes it ideal if there is a strong south-easterly, but not a northerly.

The bay is renowned for huge barramundi, reef fish and mud crabs. Most fishers head down to the Croome Creek mouth, 3km south of the town.
Get some beach worms or pilchard pieces from local tackle shops for bait, and expect to catch flathead, dart, jewfish, sea bream, tailor and trevally. There are barbecues at the park. Fresh bait will work best with a selection of worms and pipis.
The fishing beach is on the north-western side of Shoal Point, about 15km north of Mackay. About 20km north of Bundaberg. There are some big gutters which can be productive. Depending on the time of year whales, dolphins and dugongs.
